My Thoughts To-night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADED FBABGHIH JKAKAAIA LAEAMNOP EIQRPDMD

I sit by the fire musingA
With sad and downcast eyeB
And my laden breast gives utt ranceC
To many a weary sighB
Hushed is each worldly feelingA
Dimmed is each day dream brightD
O heavy heart can st tell meE
Why I m so sad to nightD
-
Tis not that I mourn the freshnessF
Of youth fore er gone byB
Its life with pulse high springingA
Its cloudless radiant eyeB
Finding bliss in every sunbeamG
Delight in every partH
Well springs of purest pleasureI
In its high ardent heartH
-
Nor yet is it for those dear onesJ
Who ve passed from earth awayK
That I grieve in spirit kneelingA
Above their beds of clayK
O no while my glance upraisingA
To yon calm shining skyA
My pale lips quivering murmurI
They are happier than IA
-
But alas my spirit mournsL
As weary it looks backA
Finding naught of good or holyE
On life s past barren trackA
I mourn for the countless errorsM
That on mem ry s page crowd onN
And sorrow for lost chancesO
Of good I might have doneP
-
But courage I must arouse meE
The day is not yet o erI
And I still may make atonementQ
Ere leaving life s last shoreR
One act of meek oblationP
A tear of penance brightD
Will be counted as rare treasuresM
In heaven s loving sightD
