Hushed is each worldly feeling | A |

O heavy heart can st tell me | E |
Why I m so sad to night | D |

Tis not that I mourn the freshness | F |
Of youth fore er gone by | B |
Its life with pulse high springing | A |
Its cloudless radiant eye | B |
Finding bliss in every sunbeam | G |
Delight in every part | H |
Well springs of purest pleasure | I |
In its high ardent heart | H |

Nor yet is it for those dear ones | J |
Who ve passed from earth away | K |
That I grieve in spirit kneeling | A |
Above their beds of clay | K |
O no while my glance upraising | A |
To yon calm shining sky | A |
My pale lips quivering murmur | I |
They are happier than I | A |

But alas my spirit mourns | L |
As weary it looks back | A |
Finding naught of good or holy | E |
On life s past barren track | A |
I mourn for the countless errors | M |
That on mem ry s page crowd on | N |
And sorrow for lost chances | O |
Of good I might have done | P |

But courage I must arouse me | E |
The day is not yet o er | I |
And I still may make atonement | Q |
Ere leaving life s last shore | R |
One act of meek oblation | P |
A tear of penance bright | D |
