Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GCHCGEIE JKLKEMNM OPQPKRSRBeloved thou rt gazing with thoughtful look | A |
On those flowers of brilliant hue | B |
Blushing in spring tide freshness and bloom | C |
Glittering with diamond dew | B |
What dost thou read in each chalice fair | D |
And what does each blossom say | E |
Do they not tell thee my peerless one | F |
Thou rt lovelier far than they | E |
- | |
Not so not so but they whisper low | G |
That quickly will fade their bloom | C |
Soon will they withered lie on the sod | H |
Ravished of all perfume | C |
They tell that youth and beauty below | G |
Are doomed alas to decay | E |
And I like them in life s flower and prime | I |
May pass from this earth away | E |
- | |
Too sad thy thoughts Look up at yon stars | J |
That gleam in the sapphire skies | K |
Not clearer their radiance best beloved | L |
Than the light of thine own dark eyes | K |
With no thoughts of death or sad decay | E |
Can they thy young spirit fill | M |
Through ages they ve shone with changeless light | N |
And yet they are shining still | M |
- | |
Ah they bring before my spirit s gaze | O |
Dreams of that home so blessed | P |
Where those who have served the Master well | Q |
At length from their labors rest | P |
And do not chide if despite all ties | K |
Of close clinging earthly love | R |
There are times when I turn a wistful glance | S |
To that distant home above | R |
