IA
Mine eye is weary of the plainsB
Of verdure vast and wideC
That stretch around me lovely calmD
From morn till even tideC
And I recall with aching heartE
My childhood s village homeF
Its cottage roofs and garden plotsG
Its brooks of silver foamF
-
IIA
True glowing verdure smiles aroundH
And this rich virgin soilI
Gives stores of wealth in quick returnJ
For hours of careless toilI
But oh the reaper s joyous songK
Ne er mounts to Heaven s domeF
For unknown is the mirth and joyL
Of the merry Harvest HomeF
-
IIIA
The solemn trackless woods are fairM
And bright their summer dressN
But their still hush their whisprings vagueO
My heart seem to oppressN
And neath their shadow could I sitP
And think the livelong dayQ
On my country s fields and hedges greenR
Gemmed with sweet hawthorn sprayQ
-
IVS
The graceful vines and strange bright flow rsN
I meet in every spotT
I d give up for a daisy meekU
A blue forget me notT
And from the brilliant birds I turnJ
Warbling the trees amongV
I know them not and breathe a sighS
For lark or linnet s songK
-
VS
But useless now those vain regretsN
My course must finish hereW
In dreams alone I now can seeS
Again my home so dearX
Or those fond loving friends who clungV
Weeping unto my breastY
And bade God speed me when I leftZ
To seek the far far WestY
