The Price Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBBCDAE FBDADCCC BGCA

Knee deep in the Watauga'sA
rock leaping whitewaterB
my brother loses his balanceA
his life if our fatherB
doesn't flail downstream swimmingC
the air running the riverB
tripping the stones to collarB
his son gasping and coughingC
onto a sandbar as heD
confirms with tentative fingersA
his empty back pocketE
-
We pace back and forth on the shorelineF
down to the bridge the otherB
bank before the sun finallyD
falls blurring the world into darknessA
my father not saying don't worryD
a life is priceless not sayingC
something like that not touslingC
my brother's hair and smilingC
-
For this is October My fatherB
believes he'll be fired soonG
will face winter's cold comingC
without thirty four washed away dollarsA
