The Ascent Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIGGJKLMNKMOB PQRQ

Some thought she had slipped the plankA
glazed slick with ice or maybeB
already cold beyond careC
drowsy and weary bare feetD
tempting a creekbed's promiseE
of sleep though she struggled outF
her trail a handprint of starsG
rising toward a dazzle of whiteH
where sun and snow met They foundI
her homespun dress underclothesG
before they found her her eyesG
open as the sky as coldJ
as far away Her fatherK
climbed the nearest tree brought downL
green sprigs berries bright as bloodM
weaved a garland for her browN
and that was how they left herK
wearing a crown unburiedM
knowing they'd never hunt hereO
or build a cabin where sheB
undressed left their world as deathP
closed around her like a roomQ
and she lay dying on the snowR
a bride awaiting her groomQ
