Fall Creek Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEDFGHIJKLMNODPJ QRSK

As though shedding an old skinA
Fall Creek slips free from fall's weightB
clots of leaves blackening snagsC
back of pool where years agoD
local lore claims clothes were shedE
by a man and woman wedE
less than a month who let hoeD
and plow handle slip from handsF
left rows half done crossed dark wavesG
of bottomland to lie onH
a bed of ferns make a childI
and all the while the womanJ
stretching both arms behind herK
over the bank hands swayingL
wrist deep in current perhapsM
some old wives' tale water's pulseN
pulsing what seed might be sownO
or just her need to let goD
the world awhile let the creekP
wash away every burdenJ
her life had carried so farQ
open a room for this newR
becoming as her bodyS
flowed around her man like waterK
