The Three Knocks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDEEDDDFDDFCCGH HGDDIJJICCKLMKDD

WHEN the owl that scared the mouseA
Fluffed his feathers and sat stillB
And the night around was chillB
On the door of yonder houseA
Someone knockedC
And a hand the door unlockedC
While the owl aloof and drearD
Yellow eyed his vigil keptE
Down the breeze a crying creptE
And it seemed to tell of fearD
Fear and careD
It was Life that entered thereD
When the owl had greyer grownF
By a score of years and moreD
On the selfsame cedar doorD
Of yon house that stands aloneF
Someone knockedC
And a hand the door unlockedC
Yet though many gracious flowersG
Wreathed the house from floor to roofH
In his shadowed haunt aloofH
Staring sat he through the hoursG
UnawareD
It was Love that entered thereD
When the owl had passed awayI
And the mouse no more afraidJ
In the tree glooms frisked and playedJ
On that door at end of dayI
Someone knockedC
And a hand the door unlockedC
Once and twice that knock had comeK
Once for Life and once for LoveL
Towards the night the shadows moveM
And the land lies still and dumbK
EverywhereD
It is Death that enters thereD
