We sent a word across the seas that saidB
nbsp nbsp nbsp The house is finished and the doors are wideC
nbsp nbsp nbsp Come enter inD
A stately house it is with tables spreadB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Where men in liberty and love abideC
nbsp nbsp nbsp With hearts akinD
-
Behold how high our hands have lifted itE
nbsp nbsp nbsp The soil it stands upon is pure and sweetF
nbsp nbsp nbsp As are our skiesG
Our title deeds in holy sweat are writE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Not red accusing blood and 'neath our feetF
nbsp nbsp nbsp No foeman liesG
-
And England Mother England leans her faceH
nbsp nbsp nbsp Upon her hand and feels her blood burn youngI
nbsp nbsp nbsp At what she seesJ
The image here of that fair strength and graceH
nbsp nbsp nbsp That made her feared and loved and sought and sungI
nbsp nbsp nbsp Through centuriesJ

What chorus shall we lift what song of joyK
What boom of seaward cannon roll of drumsL
The majesty of nationhood demandsM
A burst of royal sounds as when a victor comesL
From peril of a thousand foesN
An empire's honour saved from deathO
Brought home again an added roseN
Of victory upon its wreathP
In this wise men have greeted kingsQ
In name or fameR
But such acclaimR
Were vain and emptiest of thingsQ
If love were silent drawn apartS
And mute the People's mighty heartS
-
The love that ivy like an ancient land doth cherishT
It grows not in a day nor in a year doth perishT
nbsp nbsp nbsp But little leaf by leafU
It creeps along the walls and wreathes the ramparts hoaryV
The sun that gives it strength it is a nation's gloryV
nbsp nbsp nbsp The dew a people's griefU
-
The love that ivy like around a home land lingersW
With soft embrace of breast and green caressive fingersW
nbsp nbsp nbsp We are too young to knowX
Not ours the glory dome the monuments and archesY
At thought of which takes arms the blood and proudly marchesZ
nbsp nbsp nbsp Exultant o'er the foeX
-
Green lands undesolatedS
For no avengement cryA2
No feud of race unsatedS
Leaps out again to triumphB2
Leaps out again to triumph or to dieS
-
Attendant here to day in heart and mindS
Must be all lovers of mankindS
Attendant too the souls sublimeC2
The Prophet souls of every climeC2
Who living in a tyrant's timeC2
Yet thought and wrought and sought to breakD2
The chains about mankind and makeD2
A man where men had made a slaveE2
Who all intent to lift and saveE2
Beheld the flag of Freedom waveE2
And scorned the prison or the graveE2
For whom the darkness failed to marF2
The vision of a world afarF2
The shining of the Morning StarF2
Attendant here then they must beV
And gathering close with eyes elateS
Behold the vision of a StateS
Where men are equal just and freeV
A State that hath no stain upon herG2
No taint to hurt her maiden honourG2
A Home where love and kindness centreG2
A People's House where all may enterG2
And being entered meet no dearthH2
Of welcome round a common hearthI2
A People's House not built of stoneJ2
Nor wrought by hand and brain aloneJ2
But formed and founded on the heartS
A People's House A People's HomeC2
En isled in foam and far apartS
A People's House where all may roamC2
The many rooms and be at easeJ
A People's House with tower and domeC2
And over all a People's FlagK2
A Flag upon the breezeJ
