THE hearts of the everlasting flowersA
Shall steal the gold o' the sunB
When the winter rains have done their workC
And the winter days are doneB
And the desert pea shall hue the rocksD
By the tracks of Momba runB
The dew shall gleam on the silken websE
That the night time spider weavesF
And scatter its gems on the saltbush plainsG
And drip from the homestead eavesF
And the quandong fruit take ruddy fireH
In the green of the quandong leavesF
The bees shall saunter from bloom to bloomI
And burthen their honey sacsJ
And the drovers ride in the sunset lightK
On the long long winding tracksJ
But never a man shall pause to prayL
By the graves of the Barrier blacksJ
Deep dug they lie in the mulga scrubM
These graves of a dwindling raceN
Stone piled and bare where the windy noonsO
Swift lights and shadows traceN
And the lone heaped mound is the only signP
Of a dead man's burial placeN
They passed away like a feeble flameQ
Before the white man's breathR
Wherever the white man sets his feetS
The white man comes with deathR
And they lie deep celled in the moisty mouldT
And the wind their requiem saithR
