Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBEFGFHFIJKJLJMN ONPNQRSRTRTHE hearts of the everlasting flowers | A |
Shall steal the gold o' the sun | B |
When the winter rains have done their work | C |
And the winter days are done | B |
And the desert pea shall hue the rocks | D |
By the tracks of Momba run | B |
The dew shall gleam on the silken webs | E |
That the night time spider weaves | F |
And scatter its gems on the saltbush plains | G |
And drip from the homestead eaves | F |
And the quandong fruit take ruddy fire | H |
In the green of the quandong leaves | F |
The bees shall saunter from bloom to bloom | I |
And burthen their honey sacs | J |
And the drovers ride in the sunset light | K |
On the long long winding tracks | J |
But never a man shall pause to pray | L |
By the graves of the Barrier blacks | J |
Deep dug they lie in the mulga scrub | M |
These graves of a dwindling race | N |
Stone piled and bare where the windy noons | O |
Swift lights and shadows trace | N |
And the lone heaped mound is the only sign | P |
Of a dead man's burial place | N |
They passed away like a feeble flame | Q |
Before the white man's breath | R |
Wherever the white man sets his feet | S |
The white man comes with death | R |
And they lie deep celled in the moisty mould | T |
And the wind their requiem saith | R |
