After Drafting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHIHJFFFKFGF FLILFIMIDEHEENIN

NIGHT has fallen night and darknessA
Night with star and planet splendidB
And the earth lies like a giantC
Wrapt in sleep with limbs extendedB
Rest has stolen on the homesteadD
On the long day's rush and riotE
And no sound of horse or riderF
Breaks the soft and dewy quietE
Yet like heart criesG
After battleH
Comes the calling ceaseless callingI
Of the dun and dappled cattleH
Sleep is sweet and sweet is silenceJ
When the long day's work is overF
For the toiler and the moilerF
And the rider and the roverF
Not a breeze abroad at night timeK
Sets the barley grass aquiverF
And from dewfall on to sunriseG
Sleeps the curlew by the riverF
Yet no slumberF
Anguish smothersL
Hark the calling plaintive callingI
Of the robbed and stricken mothersL
Oh how still are plain and riverF
How all sweet how all amazingI
By the stars' march night is numberedM
Rising setting zenith blazingI
Peace has come upon the homesteadD
Passed the long day's rush and riotE
Only from the drafted cattleH
Comes a note of sad disquietE
Dun and dappledE
Horned and poleyN
They are lowing lowly lowingI
With a helpless melancholyN
