The Widow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGG HGGI CJKE KBLH GMLJ GELG

Cold was the night wind drifting fast the snows fellA
Wide were the downs and shelterless and nakedB
When a poor Wanderer struggled on her journeyC
Weary and way soreD
-
Drear were the downs more dreary her reflexionsE
Cold was the night wind colder was her bosomF
She had no home the world was all before herG
She had no shelterG
-
Fast o'er the bleak heath rattling drove a chariotH
Pity me feebly cried the poor night wandererG
Pity me Strangers lest with cold and hungerG
Here I should perishI
-
Once I had friends but they have all forsook meC
Once I had parents they are now in HeavenJ
I had a home once I had once a husbandK
Pity me StrangersE
-
I had a home once I had once a husbandK
I am a Widow poor and broken heartedB
Loud blew the wind unheard was her complainingL
On drove the chariotH
-
On the cold snows she laid her down to rest herG
She heard a horseman pity me she groan'd outM
Loud blew the wind unheard was her complainingL
On went the horsemanJ
-
Worn out with anguish toil and cold and hungerG
Down sunk the Wanderer sleep had seiz'd her sensesE
There did the Traveller find her in the morningL
GOD had releast herG
