The Soldier's Wife Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEC FGC HFI

Weary way wanderer languid and sick at heartA
Travelling painfully over the rugged roadB
Wild visag'd Wanderer ah for thy heavy chanceC
-
Sorely thy little one drags by thee bare footedD
Cold is the baby that hangs at thy bending backE
Meagre and livid and screaming its wretchednessC
-
Woe begone mother half anger half agonyF
As over thy shoulder thou lookest to hush the babeG
Bleakly the blinding snow beats in thy hagged faceC
-
Thy husband will never return from the war againH
Cold is thy hopeless heart even as CharityF
Cold are thy famish'd babes God help thee widow'd OneI
