Poems On The Slave Trade - Sonnet V Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDECFGGFHH

Did then the bold Slave rear at last the SwordA
Of Vengeance drench'd he deep its thirsty bladeB
In the cold bosom of his tyrant lordA
Oh who shall blame him thro' the midnight shadeB
Still o'er his tortur'd memory rush'd the thoughtC
Of every past delight his native groveD
Friendship's best joys and Liberty and LoveE
All lost for ever then Remembrance wroughtC
His soul to madness round his restless bedF
Freedom's pale spectre stalk'd with a stern smileG
Pointing the wounds of slavery the whileG
She shook her chains and hung her sullen headF
No more on Heaven he calls with fruitless breathH
But sweetens with revenge the draught of deathH
