Tho' now no more the musing earA
Delights to listen to the breezeB
That lingers o'er the green wood shadeC
I love thee Winter wellD
-
Sweet are the harmonies of SpringE
Sweet is the summer's evening galeF
Pleasant the autumnal winds that shakeG
The many colour'd groveH
-
And pleasant to the sober'd soulI
The silence of the wintry sceneJ
When Nature shrouds her in her tranceK
-
Not undelightful now to roamL
The wild heath sparkling on the sightM
Not undelightful now to paceN
The forest's ample roundsO
-
And see the spangled branches shineP
And mark the moss of many a hueQ
That varies the old tree's brown barkR
Or o'er the grey stone spreadsS
-
The cluster'd berries claim the eyeT
O'er the bright hollies gay green leavesU
The ivy round the leafless oakV
Clasps its full foliage closeW
-
So VIRTUE diffident of strengthX
Clings to RELIGION'S firmer aidC
And by RELIGION'S aid upheldY
Endures calamityZ
-
Nor void of beauties now the springE
Whose waters hid from summer sunA2
Have sooth'd the thirsty pilgrim's earA
With more than melodyZ
-
The green moss shines with icey glareB2
The long grass bends its spear like formC2
And lovely is the silvery sceneJ
When faint the sunbeams smileD2
-
Reflection too may love the hourE2
When Nature hid in Winter's graveF2
No more expands the bursting budG2
Or bids the flowret bloomH2
-
For Nature soon in Spring's best charmsI2
Shall rise reviv'd from Winter's graveF2
Again expand the bursting budG2
And bid the flowret bloomH2
