My days among the Dead are pastA
Around me I beholdB
Where'er these casual eyes are castA
The mighty minds of oldB
My never failing friends are theyC
With whom I converse day by dayC
-
With them I take delight in wealD
And seek relief in woeE
And while I understand and feelD
How much to them I oweE
My cheeks have often been bedew'dC
With tears of thoughtful gratitudeC
-
My thoughts are with the Dead with themF
I live in long past yearsG
Their virtues love their faults condemnF
Partake their hopes and fearsG
And from their lessons seek and findC
Instruction with an humble mindC
-
My hopes are with the Dead anonF
My place with them will beH
And I with them shall travel onF
Through all FuturityC
Yet leaving here a name I trustC
That will not perish in the dustC
