Inscription Vi. For A Monument In The New Forest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDECFCACGFAHFFF

This is the place where William's kingly powerA
Did from their poor and peaceful homes expelB
Unfriended desolate and shelterlessC
The habitants of all the fertile trackD
Far as these wilds extend He levell'd downE
Their little cottages he bade their fieldsC
Lie barren so that o'er the forest wasteF
He might most royally pursue his sportsC
If that thine heart be human PassengerA
Sure it will swell within thee and thy lipsC
Will mutter curses on him Think thou thenG
What cities flame what hosts unsepulchredF
Pollute the passing wind when raging PowerA
Drives on his blood hounds to the chase of ManH
And as thy thoughts anticipate that dayF
When God shall judge aright in charityF
Pray for the wicked rulers of mankindF
