Young Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH BIBIJKJK

Her baby was so full of gleeA
And through the dayB
It laughed and babbled on her kneeA
In happy playB
It pulled her hair all out of curlC
With noisy joyD
So peppy she was glad her girlC
Was not a boyD
-
Then as she longed for it to sleepE
To her surpriseF
It just relaxed within her keepE
With closing eyesF
And as it lay upon her breastG
So still its breathH
So exquisite its utter restG
It looked like deathH
-
It seemed like it had slipped awayB
To shadow landI
With tiny face like tinted clayB
And waxen handI
No ghost of sigh no living lookJ
Then with an acheK
Of panic fear and love she shookJ
Her babe awakeK
