Yellow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI JBKBLMLM ANANEOEOOne pearly day of early May | A |
I strolled upon the sand | B |
And saw say half a mile away | A |
A man with gun in hand | B |
A dog was cowering to his will | C |
As slow he sought to creep | D |
Upon a dozen ducks so still | C |
They seemed to be asleep | D |
- | |
When like a streak the dog dashed out | E |
The ducks flashed up in flight | F |
The fellow gave a savage shout | E |
And cursed with all his might | F |
Then I stood somewhat amazed | G |
And gazed with eyes agog | H |
With bitter rage his gun he raised | G |
And blazed and shot the dog | I |
- | |
You know how dogs can yelp with pain | J |
Its blood soaked in the sand | B |
And yet it crawled to him again | K |
And tried to lick his hand | B |
Forgive me Lord for what I've done | L |
It seemed as if it said | M |
But once again he raised his gun | L |
This time he shot it dead | M |
- | |
What could I do What could I say | A |
'Twas such a lonely place | N |
Tongue tied I saw him stride away | A |
I never saw his face | N |
I should have bawled the bastard out | E |
A yellow dog he slew | O |
But worse he proved beyond a doubt | E |
That I was yellow too | O |
