Why Do Birds Sing? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BBCCDD EEFFCC GGHHII CC

Let poets piece prismatic wordsA
Give me the jewelled joy of birdsA
-
What ecstasy moves them to singB
Is it the lyric glee of SpringB
The dewy rapture of the roseC
Is it the worship born in thoseC
Who are of Nature's self a partD
The adoration of the heartD
-
Is it the mating mood in themE
That makes each crystal note a gemE
Oh mocking bird and nightingaleF
Oh mavis lark and robin hailF
Tell me what perfect passion glowsC
In your inspired arpeggiosC
-
A thrush is thrilling as I writeG
Its obligato of delightG
And in its fervour as in mineH
I fathom tenderness divineH
And pity those of earthy earI
Who cannot hear who cannot hearI
-
Let poets pattern pretty wordsC
For lovely largesse bless you BirdsC
