White-collar Spaniard Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI JKJKLMLM

We have no heart for civil strifeA
Our burdens we prefer to bearB
We long to live a peaceful lifeA
And claim of happiness our shareB
If only to be clothed and fedC
And see our children laugh and playD
That means a lot when all is saidC
In this grim treadmill of todayD
-
The price of manhood is too highE
When leap the sacrificial flamesF
For Justice we refuse to dieE
Honour and Pride are empty namesF
We will not play the martyr's partG
We will not perish for a CauseH
Leave that to fools with humble heartG
We live according to the LawsI
-
For see Comes up the city streetJ
Communion clad a shining bandK
Of timy children angel sweetJ
Singing and holding hand in handK
So let Might triumph over RightL
From sufferance content we takeM
We fight because we do not fightL
And it is for our children's sakeM
