Victory Stuff Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDADA EFEFGHGH GIGIJKJL MNMNOCOC

What d'ye think lad what d'ye thinkA
As the roaring crowds go byB
As the banners flare and the brasses blareC
And the great guns rend the skyB
As the women laugh like they'd all gone madD
And the champagne glasses clinkA
Oh you're grippin' me hand so tightly ladD
I'm a wonderin' what d'ye thinkA
-
D'ye think o' the boys we used to knowE
And how they'd have topped the funF
Tom and Charlie and Jack and JoeE
Gone now every oneF
How they'd have cheered as the joy bells chimeG
And they grabbed each girl for a kissH
And now they're rottin' in Flanders slimeG
And they gave their lives for thisH
-
Or else d'ye think of the many a timeG
We wished we too was deadI
Up to our knees in the freezin' grimeG
With the fires of hell overheadI
When the youth and the strength of us sapped awayJ
And we cursed in our rage and painK
And yet we haven't a word to sayJ
We're glad We'd do it againL
-
I'm scared that they pity us Come old boyM
Let's leave them their flags and their fussN
We'd surely be hatin' to spoil their joyM
With the sight of such wrecks as usN
Let's slip away quietly you and meO
And we'll talk of our chums out thereC
You with your eyes that'll never seeO
Me that's wheeled in a chairC
