Trees Against The Sky Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCAA ADADEEAA AFAFGGAA AHAHIIAA AJAJHHAA AKAKLLAAA

Pines against the skyA
Pluming the purple hillB
Pines and I wonder whyA
Heart you quicken and thrillB
Wistful heart of a boyC
Fill with a strange sweet joyC
Lifting to Heaven nighA
Pines against the skyA
-
Palms against the skyA
Failing the hot hard blueD
Stark on the beach I lieA
Dreaming horizons newD
Heart of my youth elateE
Scorning a humdrum fateE
Keyed to adventure highA
Palms against the skyA
-
Oaks against the skyA
Ramparts of leaves high hurledF
Staunch to stand and defyA
All the winds of the worldF
Stalwart and proud and freeG
Firing the man in meG
To try and again to tryA
Oaks against the skyA
-
Olives against the skyA
Of evening limpidly brightH
Tranquil and soft and shyA
Dreaming in amber lightH
Breathing the peace of lifeI
Ease after toil and strifeI
Hark to their silver sighA
Olives against the skyA
-
Cypresses glooming the skyA
Stark at the end of the roadJ
Failing and faint am IA
Lief to be eased of my loadJ
There where the stones peer whiteH
in the last of the silvery lightH
Quiet and cold I'll lieA
Cypresses etching the skyA
-
Trees trees against the skyA
O I have loved them wellK
There are pleasures you cannot buyA
Treasurers you cannot sellK
And not the smallest of theseL
Is the gift and glory of treesL
So I gaze and I know now whyA
It is good to live and to dieA
Trees and the Infinite SkyA
