Rhyme Scheme: ABBBCDED DFDFGHGH IBIBIBIBThat Tom was poor was sure a pity | A |
Such guts for learning had the lad | B |
He took to Greek like babe to titty | B |
And he was mathematic mad | B |
I loved to prime him up with knowledge | C |
A brighter lad I never knew | D |
I dreamed that he would go to college | E |
And there be honoured too | D |
- | |
But no His Dad said Son I need you | D |
To keep the kettle on the boil | F |
No longer can I clothe and feed you | D |
Buy study books and midnight oil | F |
I carry on as best I'm able | G |
A humble tailor as you know | H |
And you must squat cross legged a table | G |
And learn to snip and sew | H |
- | |
And that is what poor Tom is doing | I |
He bravely makes the best of it | B |
But as he fits you he is knowing | I |
That he himself is a misfit | B |
And thinks as he fulfils his calling | I |
With patient heart yet deep distaste | B |
Like clippings from his shears down falling | I |
He too is Waste | B |
