The Wonderer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGEE HHIIJJHH KKLLMMKK NNOOPPAALLQQRS TTUULLVV

I wish that I could understandA
The moving marvel of my HandA
I watch my fingers turn and twistB
The supple bending of my wristB
The dainty touch of finger tipC
The steel intensity of gripC
A tool of exquisite designD
With pride I think It's mine It's mineD
-
Then there's the wonder of my EyesE
Where hills and houses seas and skiesE
In waves of light converge and passF
And print themselves as on a glassF
Line form and color live in meG
I am the Beauty that I seeG
Ah I could write a book of sizeE
About the wonder of my EyesE
-
What of the wonder of my HeartH
That plays so faithfully its partH
I hear it running sound and sweetI
It does not seem to miss a beatI
Between the cradle and the graveJ
It never falters stanch and braveJ
Alas I wish I had the artH
To tell the wonder of my HeartH
-
Then oh but how can I explainK
The wondrous wonder of my BrainK
That marvelous machine that bringsL
All consciousness of wonderingsL
That lets me from myself leap outM
And watch my body walk aboutM
It's hopeless all my words are vainK
To tell the wonder of my BrainK
-
But do not think O patient friendN
Who reads these stanzas to the endN
That I myself would glorifyO
You're just as wonderful as IO
And all Creation in our viewP
Is quite as marvelous as youP
Come let us on the sea shore standA
And wonder at a grain of sandA
And then into the meadow passL
And marvel at a blade of grassL
Or cast our vision high and farQ
And thrill with wonder at a starQ
A host of stars night's holy tentR
Huge glittering with wondermentS
-
If wonder is in great and smallT
Then what of Him who made it allT
In eyes and brain and heart and limbU
Let's see the wondrous work of HimU
In house and hill and sward and seaL
In bird and beast and flower and treeL
In everything from sun to sodV
The wonder and the awe of GodV
