The Trust Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIJDJD

Because I've eighty years and oddA
And darkling is my dayB
I now prepare to meet my GodA
And for forgiveness prayB
Not for salvation is my pleaC
Nor Heaven hope just restD
Begging Dear Father pardon meC
I did not do my bestD
-
I did not measure with the JustE
To serve my fellow menF
But unto levity and lustE
I loaned my precious penF
I sorrow for the sacred touchG
And though I toiled with zestD
Dear God have mercy in as muchG
I did not do my bestD
-
I bless You for the gift you gaveH
That brought me golden joyI
Yet here beside the gentle graveH
I grieve for its employI
Have pity Lord so well I knowJ
I failed you in the testD
And my last thought is one of woeJ
I did not do my bestD
