The Shorter Catechism Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDF GHGHIJKJ LJLJDEDE

I burned my fingers on the stoveA
And wept with bitternessB
But poor old Auntie Maggie stroveA
To comfort my distressC
Said she 'Think lassie how you'll burnD
Like any wicked besomE
In fires of hell if you don't learnD
Your Shorter Catechism 'F
-
A man's chief end is it beganG
No mention of a woman'sH
To glorify I think it ranG
The God who made poor humansH
And as I learned I thought if thisI
My distaste growing strongerJ
The Shorter Catechism isK
Lord save us from the longerJ
-
The years have passed and I beginL
Although I'm far from cleverJ
To doubt if when we die in sinL
Our bodies grill foreverJ
Now I've more surface space to burnD
Since I am tall and lissomE
I think it's hell enough to learnD
The Shorter CatechismE
