The Portrait Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHIH JKJLDMDM

The portrait there above my bedA
They tell me is a work of artB
My Wife since twenty years she's deadA
Her going nearly broke my heartB
Alas No little ones we hadC
To light our hearth with joy and gleeD
Yet as I linger lone and sadC
I know she's waiting meD
-
The picture Sargent painted itE
And it has starred in many a showF
Her eyes are on me where I sitE
And follow me where'er I goF
She'll smile like that when I am goneG
And I am frail and oh so illH
Aye when I'm waxen cold and wanI
Lo She'll be smiling stillH
-
So I have bade them slash in stripsJ
That relic of my paradiseK
Let flame destroy those lovely lipsJ
And char the starlight of her eyesL
No human gaze shall ever seeD
Her beauty stranger heart to stirM
Nay her last smile shall be for meD
My last look be for herM
