The Pigeons Of St. Marks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAA CDCDEE FCFCCC AAAAGH AAAAAAAA

Something's wrong in Pigeon landA
'Tisn't as it used to beB
When the pilgrim corn in handA
Courted us with laughing gleeB
When we crooned with pinions furledA
Tamest pigeons in the worldA
-
When we packed each arm and shoulderC
Never deeming man a menaceD
Surly birds were never bolderC
Than our dainty doves of VeniceD
Who would have believed a pigeonE
Could become wild as a widgeonE
-
Well juts blame it on the WarF
When Venetians grew thinnerC
And gaunt hands would grab us forF
Succulence to serve a dinnerC
How our numbers fast grew fewerC
As we perished on a skewerC
-
Pa and Mummie went like thatA
So when tourist takes his standA
On his Borsolino hatA
Soft as whispered love I landA
Then with cooing liquid vowelsG
I evacuate my bowlsH
-
Something's wrong in Pigeon landA
Mankind we no longer trustA
Shrinking from the tendered handA
pick we corn from out the dustA
While on guileless pilgrim pateA
Thinking that revenge is sweetA
Soft I croon my hymn of hateA
Drop my tribute and retreatA
