The Pigeon Shooting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCACA DEDEEFEF GHGHIEIE JEJEKHKH LMLMNONO

They say that Monte Carlo isA
A sunny place for shady peopleB
But I'm not in the gambling bizA
And sober as a parish steepleB
so though this paradisal spotC
The devil's playground of the rich isA
I love it and I love it notC
As men may sometimes fall for bitchesA
-
I lazed beneath the sky's blue blissD
The sea swooned with a sequin glimmerE
The breeze was shy as maiden kissD
The palms sashayed in silken shimmrE
The peace I soaked in every poreE
did me more good than ten religionsF
And then Bang Bang my joy was o'erE
Says I There goes them poor dam pigeonsF
-
I see them bob from out their trapsG
the swarded green aroud them ringingH
bewildered full of joy perhapsG
With sudden hope of skyway wingingH
They blink a moment at the sunI
They flutter free of earthy tetherE
A fat man holds a smoking gunI
A boy collects some blood and featherE
-
And so through all the sainted dayJ
Bang Bang a bunch of plumage goryE
Five hundred francs they cost to slayJ
And few there live to tell the storyE
Yet look there's one so swift to flyK
Despite the shots a course he's steeringH
Brave little bird he's winging highK
He's gained the trees I feel like cheeringH
-
In Monte Carlo's garden gladesL
With dreamful bliss one softly lingersM
And lazily in leafy shadesL
The doves pick breadcrumbs from one fingersM
Bang Bang Farewell oh sylvan courtsN
Where peace and joy are sweetly blendedO
God curse these lousy Latin sportsN
My pigeons scat my dream is endedO
