The Philanderer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEF GHGHIJIK LMLMNONO KOKOOPOP

Oh have you forgotten those afternoonsA
With riot of roses and amber skiesB
When we thrilled to the joy of a million JunesA
And I sought for your soul in the deeps of your eyesB
I would love you I promised forever and ayeC
And I meant it too yet oh isn't it oddD
When we met in the Underground to dayE
I addressed you as Mary instead of as MaudeF
-
Oh don't you remember that moonlit seaG
With us on a silver trail afloatH
When I gracefully sank on my bended kneeG
At the risk of upsetting our little boatH
Oh I vowed that my life was blighted thenI
As friendship you proffered with mournful mienJ
But now as I think of your children tenI
I'm glad you refused me EvangelineK
-
Oh is that moment eternal stillL
When I breathed my love in your shell like earM
And you plucked at your fan as a maiden willL
And you blushed so charmingly GuenivereM
Like a worshiper at your feet I satN
For a year and a day you made me madO
But now alas you are forty fatN
And I think What a lucky escape I hadO
-
Oh maidens I've set in a sacred shrineK
Oh Rosamond Molly and MignonetteO
I've deemed you in turn the most divineK
In turn you've broken my heart and yetO
It's easily mended What's past is pastO
To day on Lucy I'm going to callP
For I'm sure that I know true love at lastO
And She is the fairest girl of allP
