The Palace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDFGG HIHIJ KAKAB

Grimy men with picks and shovelsA
Who in darkness sweat unseenB
Climb from out your lousy hovelsA
Build a palace for the QueenB
Praise the powers that be for givingC
You a chance to make a livingC
-
Yet it would be better farD
Could you build with cosy lureE
Skyey tenements where areD
Rabbit warrens of the poorF
With a hope bright as a gemG
Some day you might live in themG
-
Could the Queen just say 'A scoreH
Of rich palaces have II
Do not make me any moreH
Raise a hostel heaven highI
House the hundreds who have needJ
To their misery give heed '-
-
Could she make this gesture fineK
To the pit where labour grovelsA
Mother hearts would cease to pineK
Weary men would wave their shovelsA
All would cry with hope sereneB
'Little children bless the Queen '-
