The Mole Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJLMNO PQOQAEAE

Said he I'll dive deep in the PastA
And write a book of direful daysB
When summer skies were overcastA
With smoke of humble hearths ablazeB
When War was rampant in the landC
And poor folk cowered in the nightD
While ruin gaped on every handC
of ravishing and wrath I'll writeD
-
Ten years he toiled to write his bookE
Yet he was happy all the whileF
The world he willingly forsookE
T live alone in hermit styleF
In garden sanctuaried sweetG
Full favoured by the steadfast sunH
plunged in the Past a life completeG
He lived At last his work was doneH
-
A worthy book that few would readI
Yet all would praise each precious pageJ
Starred with some truth the rare would heedK
The vivid images of an ageJ
Then blinking to the world againL
He came a sage remote austereM
When lo his eyes were smote with flameN
The wail of war was in his earO
-
He shrank and sighed Oh can it beP
These old iniquities prevailQ
That sons of men are still unfreeO
And time repeats her sorry taleQ
So with a long sad gaze and lastA
Seeking his secret garden nookE
He slipped again into the PastA
To live and write another bookE
