The Men That Don't Fit In Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MNONPAQA

There's a race of men that don't fit inA
A race that can't stay stillB
So they break the hearts of kith and kinA
And they roam the world at willB
They range the field and they rove the floodC
And they climb the mountain's crestD
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy bloodC
And they don't know how to restD
-
If they just went straight they might go farE
They are strong and brave and trueF
But they're always tired of the things that areE
And they want the strange and newF
They say Could I find my proper grooveG
What a deep mark I would makeH
So they chop and change and each fresh moveG
Is only a fresh mistakeH
-
And each forgets as he strips and runsI
With a brilliant fitful paceJ
It's the steady quiet plodding onesI
Who win in the lifelong raceJ
And each forgets that his youth has fledK
Forgets that his prime is pastL
Till he stands one day with a hope that's deadK
In the glare of the truth at lastL
-
He has failed he has failed he has missed his chanceM
He has just done things by halfN
Life's been a jolly good joke on himO
And now is the time to laughN
Ha ha He is one of the Legion LostP
He was never meant to winA
He's a rolling stone and it's bred in the boneQ
He's a man who won't fit inA

Ida Mäntyranta: Here's a perfect iteration of ADHD in a poem from a time when it didn't even have a name yet! We have always existed!
