The End Of The Trail Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI ABABJIJI

Life you've been mighty good to meA
Yet here's the end of the trailB
No more mountain moor and seaA
No more saddle and sailB
Waves a leap in the laughing sunC
Call to me as of yoreD
Alas my errant days are doneC
I'll rove no more no moreD
-
Life you've cheered me all the wayE
You've been my bosom friendF
But gayest dog will have his dayE
And biggest binge must endF
Shorebound I watch and see afarG
A wistful isle grow wanH
While over is a last lone starG
Dims out in lilac dawnI
-
Life you've been wonderful to meA
But fleetest foot must failB
The hour must come when all will seeA
The last lap of the trailB
Yet holding in my heart a hymnJ
Of praise for gladness goneI
Serene I wait my star to dimJ
In the glow of the Greater DawnI
