Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD BEFEGHGI BJBJKLML KNMOPQPQ

The General now lives in townA
He's eighty odd they sayB
You'll see him strolling up and downA
The Prada any dayB
He goes to every football gameC
The bull ring knows his voiceD
And when the people cheer his nameC
Moscardo must rejoiceD
-
Yet does he in the gaietyB
Of opera and ballE
A dingy little cellar seeF
A picture on a wallE
A portrait of a laughing boyG
Of sixteen singing yearsH
Oh does his heart dilate with joyG
Or dim his eyes with tearsI
-
And can he hear a wistful ladB
Speak on the telephoneJ
Hello How is it with you DadB
That's right I'm all aloneJ
They say they'll shoot me at the dawnK
If you do not give inL
But never mind Dad carry onM
You know we've got to winL
-
And so they shot him at the dawnK
No bandage irked his eyesN
A lonely lad so wistful wanM
He made his sacrificeO
he saw above the CitadelP
His flag of glory flyQ
And crying long live Spain he fellP
And died as heroes dieQ
