Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFFFHFH IJKJLMLM NONOPFQF

We pitied him becauseA
He lived aloneB
His tiny cottage wasC
His only ownB
His little garden hadD
A wall aroundE
Yet never was so gladD
A bit of groundE
-
It seemed to fair rejoiceF
With flowers and fruitG
With blooms it found a voiceF
When ours was mutsF
It smiled without a pauseF
In gracious glowH
I think it was becauseF
He loved it soH
-
He had no news to readI
No rent to payJ
His vegetable needK
He plucked each dayJ
His grateful garden gaveL
Him ample fareM
He lived without a craveL
Without a careM
-
His bread and milk and teaN
Were all he boughtO
To us he seemed to beN
A sorry lotO
But when we're dead and goneP
With all our fussF
I guess he'll carry onQ
And laugh at usF
