Remorse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGHIJIJ KLMLMMMMThat scathing word I used in scorn | A |
Though half a century ago | B |
Comes back to me this April morn | A |
Like boomerang to work me woe | B |
Comes back to me with bitter blame | C |
Though apple boughs are blossoming | D |
And oh the anguish of my shame | C |
Is sharper than a serpent's sting | D |
- | |
Age sensitizes us to pain | E |
And when remembrance of some word | F |
We spoke in wrath return again | G |
It stab is like a driven sword | H |
And if in some celestial span | I |
Our hearts in penitence may bleed | J |
For all the hurt we've done to man | I |
Ah that would be a hell indeed | J |
- | |
So friends be careful of your words | K |
Though other breasts may meet their steel | L |
Lest they return like vengeful swords | M |
Till yours the wounds that never heal | L |
For Age the heart to mercy mellows | M |
Foul memories haunt like evil elves | M |
let us be gentle to our fellows | M |
And win God's mercy for ourselves | M |
