Remorse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGHIJIJ KLMLMMMM

That scathing word I used in scornA
Though half a century agoB
Comes back to me this April mornA
Like boomerang to work me woeB
Comes back to me with bitter blameC
Though apple boughs are blossomingD
And oh the anguish of my shameC
Is sharper than a serpent's stingD
-
Age sensitizes us to painE
And when remembrance of some wordF
We spoke in wrath return againG
It stab is like a driven swordH
And if in some celestial spanI
Our hearts in penitence may bleedJ
For all the hurt we've done to manI
Ah that would be a hell indeedJ
-
So friends be careful of your wordsK
Though other breasts may meet their steelL
Lest they return like vengeful swordsM
Till yours the wounds that never healL
For Age the heart to mercy mellowsM
Foul memories haunt like evil elvesM
let us be gentle to our fellowsM
And win God's mercy for ourselvesM
