Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHI JJKKLLMM NNDDBBKK BBOOKKKK

The porter in the Pullman carA
Was charming as they sometimes areA
He scanned my baggage tags Are youB
The man who wrote of Lady LouB
When I said yes he made a fussC
Oh he was most assiduousC
And I was pleased to think that heD
Enjoyed my brand of poetryD
-
He was forever at my callE
So when we got to MontrealE
And he had brushed me off I saidF
I'm glad my poems you have readF
I feel quite flattered I confessG
And if you give me your addressG
I'll send you autographed of courseH
One of my little books of verseI
-
He smiled his teeth were white as milkJ
He spoke his voice was soft as silkJ
I recognized depite his skinK
The perfect gentleman withinK
Then courteously he made replyL
I thank you kindly Sir but IL
With many other cherished tomeM
Have all your books of verse at homeM
-
When I was quite a little boyN
I used to savour them with joyN
And now my daughter aged threeD
Can tell the tale of Sam McGeeD
While Tom my son that's only twoB
Has heard the yarn of Dan McGrewB
Don't think your stuff I'm not applaudin'K
My taste is Eliot and AudenK
-
So we gravely bade adieuB
I felt quite snubbed and so would youB
And yet I shook him by the handO
Impressed that he could understandO
The works of those two tops I mentionK
So far beyond my comprehensionK
A humble bard of boys and barmenK
Disdained alas by Pullman carmenK
