A pote is sure a goofy guyA
He ain't got guts like you or IA
To tell the scoreB
He ain't goy gumption 'nuff to knowC
The game of life's to get the doughC
Then get some moreB
Take Brother Bill he used to beD
The big shot of the familyD
The first at schoolE
But since about a year agoC
Through readin' Longfeller and PoeC
He's most a foolE
-
He mopes around with dimwit stareF
You might as well jest not be thereF
The way he looksG
You'd think he shuns the human raceH
The how he buries down his faceH
In highbrow booksG
I've seen him stand for near an hourI
Jest starin' at a simple flowerI
Sich waste o' timeJ
The scribblin' on an envelopeK
Why most of all his silly dopeK
Don't even rhymeJ
-
Now Brother's Jim's an engineerL
And Brother Tim's a bank cashierL
While I keep storeB
Yet Bill the brightest of the flockM
Might be a lawyer or a docM
And then some moreB
But no he moons and loafs aboutN
As if he tried to figger outN
Why skies are blueO
Instead o' gittin' down to gripsP
Wi' life an' stackin' up the chipsP
Like me an' youO

Well since them final lines I wroteQ
We're mournin' for our Brother PoteQ
Bill crossed the seaD
And solved his problem with the beatR
For now he lies in peace and restS
In NormandieD
He died the bravest of the braveT
And here I'm standin' by his graveT
So far from homeU
With just a wooden cross to tellV
How in the blaze of battle hellV
As gloriously there he fellV
Bill wrote his pomeU
