Said the Door She came inA
With no shadow of sinA
Turned the key in the lockB
Slipped out of her frockB
The robe she liked bestC
When for supper she dressedC
Then a letter she toreD
What a wan look she woreD
Said the DoorD
-
Said the Chair She sat downE
With a pitiful frownE
And then oh it's queerF
Just one lonely tearG
Rolled down her pale cheekH
How I hoped she would speakH
As she let down her hairG
Said the ChairG
-
Said the Glass Then she gazedI
Into me like one dazedI
As with delicate graceJ
She made up her faceJ
Her cheeks and her lipsK
With rose finger tipsK
So lovely alasL
Then she turned on the gasL
Said the GlassL
-
Said the Bed Down she layM
In a weariful wayM
Like an innocent childN
To her fate reconciledN
Hands clasped to her breastC
In prayer or in restC
'Dear Mother ' she saidO
Then pillowed her headO
Said the BedO
-
Said the Room Then the gleamP
Of the moon like a dreamP
Soft silvered my spaceJ
And it fell on her faceJ
That was never so sweetQ
As her heart ceased to beatQ
Then the moon fled and gloomR
Fell like funeral plumeR
Said the RoomR
-
Just a whoreD
Said the DoorD
Yet so fairG
Said the ChairG
Frail alasL
Said the GlassL
Now she's deadO
Said the BedO
Sorry doomR
Said the RoomR
-
Then they allS
Floor and wallS
Quiet grewT
Ceiling tooT
Like a tombR
Was the roomR
With hushed breathU
Hailing DeathU
Soul's releaseV
Silence PeaceV
