In kindergarten classedA
Dislike they knewB
And as the years went pastA
It grew and grewB
Until in maidenhoodA
Each sought a mateA
Then venom in their moodA
Was almost hateA
-
The lure of love they learnedA
And they were wedA
Yet when they met each turnedA
Away a headA
Each went her waspish wayC
With muted damnsD
Until they met one dayC
With baby pramsD
-
Then lo Away was sweptA
The scorn of yearsD
Hands clasped they almost weptA
With gentle tearsD
Forgetting hateful daysD
All mother mildA
Each took with tender praiseD
The other's childA
-
And now they talk of milkE
Of diapers and suchF
Of baby bosoms silkE
And tender to the touchF
A gemlike girl and boyG
With hope unsaidA
Each thinks with mother joyG
'May these two wed '-
