Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAADDEEFFEE GGHIJJAA| When I am old and worse for wear | A |
| I want to buy a rocking chair | A |
| And set it on a porch where shine | B |
| The stars of morning glory vine | B |
| With just beyond a gleam of grass | C |
| A shady street where people pass | C |
| And some who come with time to spare | A |
| To yarn beside my rocking chair | A |
| Then I will light my corn cob pipe | D |
| And dose and dream and rarely gripe | D |
| My morning paper on my knee | E |
| I won't allow to worry me | E |
| For if I know the latest news | F |
| Is bad to read it I'll refuse | F |
| Since I have always tried to see | E |
| The side of life that clicks with glee | E |
| - | |
| And looking back with days nigh done | G |
| I feel I've had a heap of fun | G |
| Of course I guess that more or less | H |
| It's you yourself make happiness | I |
| And if your needs are small and few | J |
| Like me you may be happy too | J |
| And end up with a hope a prayer | A |
| A chuckle in a rocking chair | A |
