When wearied of my proper labors | B |
I lay aside my lagging pen | A |
And get to thinking on my neighbors | B |
For oh around my garret den | A |
There's woe and poverty a plenty | C |
And life's so interesting when | A |
A lad is only two and twenty | C |
- | |
Now there's that artist gaunt and wan | D |
A little card his door adorning | E |
It reads Je ne suis pour personne | D |
A very frank and fitting warning | E |
I fear he's in a sorry plight | F |
He starves I think too proud to borrow | G |
I hear him moaning every night | F |
Maybe they'll find him dead to morrow | G |
