| Makes shiny shoes which dames try on | A |
| And finding to their fit and stance | B |
| They buy and wear with elegance | C |
| But mine is quite another tale | D |
| For song there is no sale | D |

| Is owner of and ladies stop | E |
| To try the models he has planned | F |
| And richly pay I understand | F |
| Yet not even a dingy dime | G |

| Like trotters tripe and sausage meat | H |
| I dare not by his window stop | E |
| Lest he should offer me a chop | E |
| For though a starving bard I be | I |
| To hell say I with charity | I |

| But though my poverty I curse | J |
| I would not for a diadem | K |
| Exchange my lowly lot with them | K |
