Lost Kitten Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKHKH LMLMNONO FBFBPQPQ

Two men I saw reel from a barA
And stumble down the streetB
Coarse and uncouth as workmen areA
They walked with wobbly feetB
I watched them thinking sadly asC
I heard their hobnails clinkD
The only joy a toiler hasC
Is to get drowned in drinkD
-
A kitten on a wallE
A skinny starving strayF
It looked so pitifully smallE
A fluff of silver greyF
One of the men came to a standG
A kindly chap was heH
For with a huge and horny handG
He stroked it tenderlyH
-
With wistful hope it gazed at himI
And arched a spine of furJ
It licked his hand so grimy grimI
And feebly tried to purrJ
And then it climbed upon his chestK
And to his drunken gleeH
Upon his shoulder came to restK
Contented as could beH
-
The other fellow with a jeerL
Made feint to dash it downM
but as it shrank with sudden fearL
I saw the first one frownM
And then I heard him coarsely cryN
Have care for what you doO
Just harm a hair of it and IN
Will twist my knife in youO
-
So there they stood like brutes at bayF
Their blood at fighting heatB
And snarling at each other theyF
Went weaving down the streetB
Leaving the kitten all aloneP
Upon its stony shelfQ
And as I haven't heart of stoneP
I took it home myselfQ
