For I have bought annuityB
And every day of living IA
Have money coming in to meB
While others toil to make their breadC
I make mine by not being dead 'D
-
Said Jones 'I can't afford to dieA
For I have books and books to writeE
I do not care for pelf but IA
Would versify my visions brightE
Emotions noble in my breastF
By worthy words should be expressed '-
-
Said Smith 'I can't afford to dieA
Because my life is kindly plannedG
So many on my care relyA
For comfort and a helping handG
Too many weak ones need me soH
And will be woeful when I go '-
-
Then Death appraisingly looked downI
Saying 'Your time's up Mister BrownI
And I am sorry Mister JonesJ
The earth is ready for your bonesJ
Friend Smith although you're overdueK
Your lease of living we'll renewK
Both fame and fortune far aboveL
What matters in the end is Love '-
