Land Mine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDF GHGHIJI KLKLMNMN OPOQRSRS TUTUKDK

A grey gull hovered overheadA
Then wisely flew awayB
'In half a jiffy you'll be dead 'C
I thought I heard it sayB
As there upon the railway lineD
Checking an urge to coughE
I laboured to de fuse the mineD
That had not yet gone offF
-
I tapped around the time clock rimG
Then something worried meH
I heard the singing of a hymnG
Nearer my God to TheeH
That damned Salvation Army bandI
I phoned back to the boysJ
'Please tell them they will understandI
Cut out the bloody noise '-
-
Silence I went to work anewK
And then I heard a tickL
That told me the blast was dueK
I never ran so quickL
I heard the fury roar behindM
The earth erupted hellN
As hoisted high and stunned and blindM
Into a ditch I fellN
-
Then when at last I crawled from coverO
My hands were bloody rawP
And I was blue and bruised all overO
And this is what I sawQ
All pale but panting with elationR
And very much unstuckS
There was the Army of SalvationR
Emerging from the muckS
-
And then I heard the Captain sayingT
''Twas Heaven heard our pleasU
For there anight we all were prayingT
Down on our bended kneesU
'Twas little hope your comrades gave youK
Though we had faith divineD
The blessed Lord stooped down to save youK
But Gosh He cut it fine '-
