Jim Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EF EGHIHI JKJKLKLK MGMGKGKGHe was a traveling tinker lad | A |
And I was a gypsy jade | B |
Yet never were two so gay and glad | A |
And a perfect pair we made | B |
Bruises I've known since life began | C |
Blows and the love that smothers | D |
But I'd rather have the curse of my man | C |
Than the kisses of all others | D |
- | |
When Black Mike called me a lousy bitch | E |
Jim was so mad like hell 'e | F |
- | |
Flammed and Mike lay there in the ditch | E |
With a jack knife in his belly | G |
Then came the cops and they put away | H |
My bully behind the bars | I |
And he'll lose for a score of years they say | H |
The light o' the larky stars | I |
- | |
And yet in spite o' his dismal doom | J |
No garb of woe I'm wearing | K |
For the seed of him is in my womb | J |
And son for him I'm bearing | K |
And when they swing the prison gate | L |
And him like blind they're leading | K |
His boy and I with bliss will wait | L |
Although our hearts are bleeding | K |
- | |
Then we will take with wildwood track | M |
And he'll be wae and weary | G |
But when he gets his manhood back | M |
And beats me I'll be cheery | G |
And maybe some fowl's neck I'll wring | K |
And maybe we'll get tipsy | G |
So by a thorn fire how we'll sing | K |
What heaven for a gypsy | G |
