Jaloppy Joy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD DEDDFGFG HIHIDJDK LDMDNONO

Past ash cans and alley catsA
Fetid overflowing guttersB
Leprous lines of rancid flatsA
Where the frowsy linen fluttersB
With a rattle and a jarC
hark I sing a happy dittyD
As I speed my Master farC
From the poison of the CityD
-
Speed him to the sportive seaD
Watch him walloping the brinyE
Light his pipe and brew his teaD
In a little wood that's pinyD
Haven him to peace of mindF
Drowsy dreams in pleasant placesG
Where the woman's eyes are kindF
And the men have ruddy facesG
-
Just a jaloppy am IH
But he's always been my loverI
So each Sunday morn I tryH
Youthful joy to re discoverI
For he loves the wild and freeD
And though he would never know itJ
Nature thrills him with the gleeD
And the rapture of the poetK
-
He's a little invoice clerkL
I'm a worn and ancient flivverD
I have an asthmatic sparkM
He an alcoholic liverD
Yet with clatter clang and creakN
We are lyrical for one dayO
Then another loathly weekN
Living for another SundayO
