For swinish husks I let them go | A |
And bedded with the swine | B |
Since then I've come on evil days | C |
And most of life is hell | D |
But even swine have winsome ways | C |
When once you know them well | D |

And greet the folks again | F |
And so I rode the rods to home | E |
And through the window pane | G |
I saw them weary worn and grey | H |
I gazed from the garden gloom | I |
And like sweet shiny saints were they | H |
Int taht sweet shiny room | I |

D'ye think I hollored out Hullo | D |
The prodigal to play | D |
And eat the fatted calf Ah no | A |
I cursed and ran away | D |
My eyes were blears of whisky tears | J |
As to a pub I ran | K |
But once at least I beat the beast | L |
And proved myself a man | K |
